The subtitle of this book, "The Surprising History of Women's Words," alludes as much as anything to how much the voices of women have been silenced throughout history; even when it comes to the language surrounding their own bodies. My goal was to consider the silencing of women writ large, without alluding to any individual person or specific group.
The combination of soft pink hints at femininity and womanhood and women's bodies which are all themes in the book, the form of the, while the tape and handwritten title offer a bold contrast. The allusion to the form of a head and shoulders grounds the tape in its scale and purpose.
